This is a range of hills situated 10 miles (16 Kilometers) south-east of Polonnaruwa and about 7 miles (11 Kilometers) from Manampitiya. Even though the climb is trying and sometimes dangerous, it is a truly picturesque place to visit. There are various ruins dating from 300 BC to 1200 AD, scattered on the hillsides. In medieval times, Dimbulagala was a forest hermitage and a center of learning. There is still a hermitage and shrine here. There are many series of caves with white plastered walls which were covered with paintings. Only two of the caves are better preserved to this day you can see some of these paintings.
